Chamomile

Chamomile

Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla), is a delicate, daisy-like flower part of the Asteraceae family. Long cherished for its soothing aroma and calming qualities, chamomile is cultivated across the globe and thrives in sunny fields and meadows. Its name comes from the Greek chamaimēlon, meaning “earth apple,” a nod to the plant’s sweet, apple-like scent released when its blossoms are crushed.

Chamomile has a wide range of therapeutic uses. The flowers are rich in volatile oils, flavonoids, and antioxidants that contribute to its calming, anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, and mild sedative effects. It is used to ease digestive discomfort, calm anxiety, relax muscles, soothe menstrual cramps, and reduce inflammation in the skin.

Chamomile tea is pale golden, and produces a soft, comforting aroma and a mellow flavor that is sweet, floral, and faintly fruity, with warm apple-like notes. Our whole family loves its gentle taste, and it has become a beloved bedtime beverage in our household. It blends well with lavender, lemon balm, and honey – and we use it in our Calm Blend, Quiet Mind Blend and Wellness Blend.
