Lemon Balm

Lemon Balm

Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis) is a perennial herb in the mint family (Lamiaceae), native to southern Europe and the Mediterranean region. With its heart-shaped, lightly serrated leaves and gentle lemon scent, lemon balm has been cultivated for over 2,000 years for both culinary and medicinal purposes. The genus name Melissacomes from the Greek word for “bee,” spotlighting the plant’s appeal to pollinators.

Lemon balm is used to reduce stress, promote sleep, ease digestive discomfort, and uplift the mood. Its calming properties are attributed to compounds including rosmarinic acid and citronellal, which have mild sedative and antispasmodic effects.

Lemon balm tea has a bright, citrusy flavor with subtle minty undertones. Its mild sweetness and soothing aroma pair well with a wide range of herbs, including chamomile, lavender, and spearmint. We enjoy lemon balm tea hot and iced – it’s ideal for unwinding in the evening or as a gentle daytime stress reliever.
