Nasturtium

Nasturtium (Tropaeolum majus) is a brightly colored flowering plant with round, shield-like leaves and vibrant flowers, which range in color from yellow and orange to deep red. All parts of the nasturtium plant are edible and have a peppery flavor, similar to watercress. Leaves bring a spicy kick to salads, the flowers are colorful garnishes, and the seed pods are can be pickled and used as a substitute for capers. Known for its antimicrobial and expectorant properties, nasturtium is used to support respiratory and urinary tract health, and for minor wound care due to its natural antibiotic compounds. The plant contains glucotropaeolin, a mustard oil glycoside that, when broken down, releases compounds with antiseptic and anti-inflammatory effects.

Nasturtium tea made from dried leaves or flowers has a peppery, slightly tangy flavor and pairs well with peppermint, spearmint, lemon balm, and chamomile.

We adore our Nasturtium Salt which is a bold, peppery flavored finishing salt that brings out the vibrant essence of fresh nasturtium flowers even in the middle of winter. With its bright flavor and striking color, Nasturtium Salt adds a zesty kick to salads, roasted vegetables, eggs, and more. \
