Orange Balm

Orange Balm (Melissa officinalis var. citrata), sometimes called citrus balm, is a fragrant perennial herb in the mint family (Lamiaceae). A close relative of lemon balm, it has a distinctly sweet, orange-citrus aroma. Orange balm thrives in sunny gardens, woodland edges, and herb borders, where its bright green, softly textured leaves release a burst of citrus fragrance when touched.

Orange balm is a gentle, calming herb, valued for supporting relaxation and uplifting the mood. Its aromatic leaves lend themselves well to herbal teas, culinary creations, infused honeys, and refreshing summertime beverages. The plant’s natural citrus oils and mellow herbal notes make it a versatile ingredient in both sweet and savory preparations.

Orange balm tea has a soft, citrusy flavor – less tart than lemon balm, with warm, sweet orange undertones and a delicate herbal finish. It’s a smooth, cheerful brew that can be enjoyed throughout the day. To enhance its brightness, it pairs beautifully with herbs like spearmint or hibiscus. For a more rounded, comforting blend, combining it with chamomile or a touch of lavender creates a softly aromatic cup perfect for winding down.
